Welcome to the Alexa Design Guide for skill creators! We hope that wherever you are on your skill-building journey, this guide will inspire and empower you to design best-in-class experiences for your Alexa customers. Use it in combination with the technical documentation in the Amazon Developer Portal to help you implement your designs.
When a customer speaks with your skill, how will your skill respond? When and how are you going to tell them about all the great stuff they can do with your skill? How will you avoid overwhelming them? What will you display on the screen, if your customer has one? If you’ve already starting asking these questions, you’ve engaged in Conversation Design.
The answers to the above questions will affect whether customers remember and continue to use your skills consistently over a long period of time (retention), whether they discover all the useful and fun stuff your skill can do for them (discoverability), and can affect whether customers want to spend money in your skill (your ROI).
