The first full trailer for James Cameron’s Avatar sequel, which takes viewers back to the world of Pandora some 13 years later, has been revealed.
More than ten years after the events of the first movie, Jake and Neytiri Sully and their children are introduced in the two-and-a-half-minute trailer for the movie: The Way Of Water.
The new teaser transports viewers beneath the ocean’s surface where they encounter fantastical animals that resemble gigantic winged fish, whales, and colorful jellyfish.
Jake is seen instructing his daughter in bow hunting as she says to him: “I know I must be insane, but I feel her, Dad. Her heartbeat is audible. She’s so near.”
What does her heartbeat sound like, he queries. She pauses before saying, “Mighty.”
The native Pandorans, the Na’vi, are also seen resuming combat with what appear to be humans while donning weaponized “mech suits.”
Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang, who plays Colonel Miles Quaritch, and Sigourney Weaver are among the cast members of the eagerly awaited sequel to the 2009 film.
Weaver, 73, played Dr. Grace Augustine, a scientist, in the original film. For the sequel, which opens in UK theaters on December 16, she will return as Kiri, Jake and Neytiri’s adoptive adolescent daughter.
Along with newcomers Michelle Yeoh, Vin Diesel, and Edie Falco, the cast also welcomes actress Kate Winslet from Titanic and Mare of Easttown.
The first sci-fi epic made close to $3 billion (£2.6 billion) at the box office and won three Oscars for its breathtaking visual effects, cinematography, and art direction.
In order to access the planet of Pandora, people have to inhabit avatars in the 2154 setting of the movie.
