Most award winning Ghanaian Dancehall and Afro dancehall singer, Livingstone Etse Satekla, known in the music space as Stonebwoy has vowed to press the Ghana Music Right Organization (GHAMRO) to be on their toes until the royalty system is fixed.
Since the existence of the Ghana Music Rights Organization, many artist and copyright owners in Ghana has been complaining about the incompetence of the agency. Copy right owners cries for low amount of money they get as their royalties over years of hard work.
If you may recall, Kwaw Kesse in 2020 made it clear to the public that, Ghamro is not doing anything for musicians. Many others has also been voicing out and complaining about how poor the organization operates.
On 18th January 2022, Stonebwoy in a social media post said he’s going to push the royalty system until it is fixed.
”@Ghamro_official this year 2022!
The royalty system must work peroperly..
I promise to push until it’s fixed…
No fights, No disrespect intended
Lets face the issues Now!
The sudden increase in royalty is pure PR, I’ve congratulated you on that anyway.. #GhanaMusicMatters”, Stonebwoy wrote in a post.
Few minutes after the post, Reggy Zippy reacted to advised Stonebwoy on his excitement on the increase of royalties by GHAMRO.
”My brother Stonebwoy always falls for the GHAMRO SHENANIGANS led by our uncle Rex Omar.
Bro, GHAMRO gave you just 2000 Ghana cedis in 2020 and made you the poster child for their incompetencies back then cuz the Ghana Music Alliance kept them on their toes and they realized they had to convince the top Ghanaian artists to legitimise their incompetence but other top artists didn’t even mind them. You’re the only dancehall artists to have battled with me and i rate you for that.
Ghamro gave you just 4x what you received in 2020 and you are praising them today 17/01/2022? Come on G, we’re supposed to be fighting for the next generation.
Just a mere 8000 Ghana cedis in two years for a huge brand like you and you’re happy with this chicken change? Come on bro, you know this is not even enough for your business class ticket from Ghana to England so let’s get them to go to the real work, not just make believes work.
Bro Stonebwoy you deserve ONE MILLION GHANA CEDIS PER MONTH, AFTER ALL THE AIRPLAY AND YOUR HARD WORK SWEAT AND TOIL YOU’VE PUT INTO GHANA MUSIC TILL DATE? No Cap 🧢👍👍🖤🖤. #nocap”. Reggy Zippy wrote.
Stonebwoy is yet to respond to Zippy’s reaction on his comment.
GHAMRO is a royalty collection system within Ghana, that represents the rights of music copyright holders. It was created under section 49 of the copyright law, Act 690 of 2005. It collects royalties for all rights owners in Ghana.
