Shakira and her longtime boyfriend Gerard Piqué have ended their relationship.

After 11 years of dating, the Colombian pop star and the Spanish soccer player, Shakira and Gerard Pique announced their separation.
Milan, 9, and Sasha, 7, are the couple’s two sons.

“We ask for privacy at this moment for the well-being of our children, who are our maximum priority,” said the pop star and the soccer player.

“We regret to confirm that we are separating,” the stars said in a joint statement. “We ask for privacy at this moment for the well-being of our children, who are our maximum priority. Thank you in advance for your understanding and respect.”

The singer of “Hips Don’t Lie” and the FC Barcelona player first confirmed their relationship in 2011, after meeting on the set of the singer’s music video for the 2021 FIFA World Cup anthem “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa).”

Throughout their relationship, the couple remained mostly private, with only a few red carpet appearances.
Shakira would bring their children to football games to cheer on the footballer, and Piqué was present for the singer’s 2020 Super Bowl Halftime Show performance with Jennifer Lopez.

Both stars would also post photos of their families on Instagram.
Earlier this year, the pair spent Valentine’s Day and New Year’s Eve together, with the “She Wolf” singer posting selfies on Instagram.

During their decades-long relationship, they also talked about their families in interviews.
Shakira discussed her decision not to marry in an interview with 60 Minutes in early 2020.

“To tell you the truth, marriage scares the shit out of me. I don’t want him to see me as the wife. I’d rather him see me as his girlfriend,” she said. “His lover, his girlfriend. It’s like a little forbidden fruit, you know? I wanna keep him on his toes. I want him to think that anything’s possible depending on behavior.”
