After making a gift, actor Ryan Reynolds sent the team a note with the message, “Enjoy the new outfits!” As a sign of appreciation, the team is now attaching a Deadpool emblem to the sleeves.
Ryan Reynolds, who plays Deadpool, surprised a youth football club by giving them £1,600 so they could purchase new uniforms.
For her son’s under-12s team, FC United of Wrexham, Kayleigh Barton created a fundraising website. She claimed she was “very shocked” by the news.
In 2021, Reynolds and fellow actor Rob McElhenney acquired ownership of the city’s National League team.
Reynolds made two contributions in response to Ms. Barton’s appeal: one for £600 and one for $1,000.
Said Ms. Barton: “I was so close to crying. I am aware of the value that money holds for the team and the guys. Happy is putting it mildly.”
She first argued that since the boys “work so hard,” they should all be permitted to wear the same uniform.
GoFundMe verified that the actor was the source of the two gifts.
Enjoy the new clothes, the 46-year-old added in a letter to the team’s founder Andrew Ruscoe.
Despite asking the actor to retweet the fundraising plea, Mr. Ruscoe told the local newspaper The Leader that he didn’t anticipate the actor making a personal donation.
The team released a video of its players expressing their gratitude to Reynolds and announced that the Deadpool emblem will be added to the kit’s sleeves as “a gesture of respect.”
The actor has garnered attention before for doing a nice gesture.
After a player’s baby was stillborn the previous year, he and McElhenney sent £10,000 to a charity. In July, he video-messaged a 13-year-old boy who had just undergone open-heart surgery.
Recently, the two were recognized for their work promoting Wales and the Welsh language.
