Ghanaian reggae/dancehall singer, Stonebwoy, has stated that his deal with DefJam will not compel him to change his musical style, but rather will help him improve.
Regardless of DefJam‘s posturing, the multi-award-winning singer stated that he will continue to focus on the genres in which he excels.
The record label is known for bringing hip-hop and R&B musicians to the forefront, whereas Stonebwoy is well-versed in afro-dancehall, reggae, afrobeat, and highlife.
Stonebwoy stated that what he is already known for played a huge role in DefJam considering him worthy of signing as a signee.
As a result, there is no reason for him to change his demeanor.
On Thursday, May 5, 2022, he made these remarks at a press conference at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra.
Stonebwoy’s outdooring by DefJam was the press conference.
He then questioned that, “If you’switch’ the switch, where is Stonebwoy again?”.
“And it is this same Stonebwoy that these brands have decided to work with for Ghana and West Africa.”
Despite his determination to stay true to his roots, the “Therapy” hit-maker stated that his fans and the rest of the world will witness a change.
This, he claims, will demonstrate and strengthen his “versatility” as an artist, making him more appealing around the world.
“There is no change. It is just an improvement… because we want to get to a larger audience, we have to also be able to attract them to what they also know, so they can experience what this is.”
Universal Music Group expect Stonebwoy to produce three studio albums its DefJam Recordings Africa division.
