M-Net Movies Honors "Spider-Man's" 60th anniversary

M-Net Movies is celebrating SPIDER-MAN’s 60th birthday by airing nine Spider-Man films from Sony Pictures over the period of ten days.

The films will air on a dedicated pop-up movie channel (DStv 111), which is only available to premium subscribers, as well as on DStv Now and DStv Catch Up, from Friday, September 23, to Sunday, October 2.

Since making his sidekick debut in August 1962’s Amazing Fantasy #15 anthology comic book by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, Peter Parker has developed from a troubled high schooler to a college student.

His motto, “With great power comes tremendous responsibility,” has remained constant as he has utilized his web-shooters and “Spider senses” to save the day for 60 years, transitioning from a married high school teacher to a single freelance photographer.

M-Net Movies presents the nine Spider-Man movies, including eight live-action blockbusters and one animated smash, with the first installment debuting in 2002 and the most current in 2021:

Spider Man (2002)
When Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) accidently gets bitten by a radioactive spider, he turns into an incredible superhero.

Young Peter makes a promise to utilize his skills to revenge the brutal murder of his beloved uncle during a robbery.

Spider Man 2 (2004)

Tobey Maguire reprises his role as the mild-mannered Peter Parker, based on the iconic Marvel Comics character, who manages to juggle his dual existence as a college student and a superhuman crime fighter.

The clever Otto Octavius (Alfred Molina), who has been reborn as the crazy and multi-tentacled “Doc Ock,” presents Peter with a new foe, further complicating his existence.

Spider Man 3 (2007)

New York City is experiencing Spider-mania as Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) finally has Mary Jane Watson (Kirsten Dunst), the girl of his dreams!

However, Spider-darkest Man’s demons are revealed when a weird alien symbiote turns his costume black, which transforms Spider-Man both inside and out.

The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)
As his superhero alter ego Spider-Man, a young Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) struggles with both high school and extraordinary superhuman difficulties.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014)

Being Spider-Man is wonderful (Andrew Garfield). There is no thrill like leaping between buildings, embracing his role as a hero, and hanging out with Gwen for Peter Parker (Emma Stone).

Spider-ManHomecoming (2017)
Tom Holland, who made an unforgettable debut as Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War, plays a teenage Peter Parker as he learns how to live up to his new identity as the web-slinging superhero.

Peter, who lives with his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei) and is watched over by his new tutor Tony Stark, is overjoyed by his time with the Avengers and goes home (Robert Downey Jr.).

Peter struggles to resume his regular daily activities while preoccupied with ideas of going beyond the role of your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.

But everything Peter values most will be in jeopardy when the Vulture (Michael Keaton) appears as a new bad guy.

Spider-Man Far From Home (2018)

After the events of Avengers: Endgame, Tom Holland’s Peter Parker makes a comeback in Spider-Man: Far From Home. Our amiable neighborhood superhero makes the decision to travel to Europe with his closest pals Ned, MJ, and the rest of the crew.

Peter’s desire to take a break from super hero work for a few weeks, however, is quickly abandoned when he reluctantly agrees to assist Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) in solving the case of repeated attacks by elemental creatures.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)
The visionaries behind The Lego Movie and 21 Jump Street, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, combine their individual talents to a new interpretation of a distinct Spider-Man Universe with a revolutionary visual aesthetic that is the first of its kind.

Spider-Man movie, No Way Home (2021)

The identity of our friendly neighborhood hero is revealed for the first time in Spider-Man history, putting those he cares about most in danger and causing his heroic duties to collide with his everyday obligations.

The spell tears a hole in their world when he asks Doctor Strange to help him regain his secret, unleashing the most formidable antagonists to ever battle a Spider-Man in any universe.
