Ghanaian singer, Gyakie, has described being booed off stage at a concert on the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) campus as the worst moment of her career.
On Thursday, May 26th, 2022, the ‘My Mind Dey For You’ hitmaker disclosed the embarrassing situation to Nana Romeo on Accra100.5FM’s mid-morning show Ayekoo Ayekoo.
“My worst performance was at KNUST the first time; I had just released my debut song, ‘Love is Pretty.'”
Republic Hall Week was one of the most important hall-week celebrations on campus…
“I was one of the new acts that got on stage.”
“So, I was going to play my song,” she recounted, “and I was quite frightened but had some confidence.”
“So, I’m on stage, singing; as is customary, they’ll be staring at your face…
They didn’t know the song, but because it was a reggae song, they were just bobbing to it, and then the sound system went out, my mic wasn’t working, nothing was playing, and I was just on stage, and they were just clapping and some of them were like, ‘Away!’ and then I had to leave, went backstage, I cried, but people came to give me words of encouragement,” she recounted.
Gyakie, who already has one EP under her belt, is set to release a new one called ‘My Diary.’
“My EP is going to be one of the best; I’ve worked so hard for this project, and this EP is going to come off as a big surprise, a big shock to everyone because there’s something new; you’re going to hear growth in my sound, in the production, everything, and this EP, you guys aren’t ready [for it], but it’ll be dropping very soon, but I’ll drop a single from the EP before the EP comes out.”
“The EP is coming this year, and it’s coming very soon,” she said. “I can’t tell you the date because it’s going to be a surprise,” she added.
“Too many people are going to be surprised by this EP.
“I’m not going to divulge any details about it, but if you hear Gyakie has drawn an EP, run and go stream it because no one will be dissatisfied, and everyone will like the product,” she said.
